Thank you for visiting our website!

Whether you're already a member of Girlguiding, or a leader, or just someone who is interested in our work, we hope that you will find this website useful.

Girlguiding West Mercia is one of the Counties of Girlguiding UK, the largest movement for girls and young women in the United Kingdom with nearly 600,000 members. We cover the area around the City of Wolverhampton and the majority of the Black Country conurbation, including the large towns of Dudley, Walsall and West Bromwich.

Our organisation

West Mercia is headed by a County Commissioner and her assistant, who, along with various committee members co-ordinate the activities of guiding within the County.

West Mercia is then split into smaller areas, called Divisions, each of which look after guiding on a more local level, usually across a town or part of a larger town or city. These Divisions are then broken down into Districts, which are concerned with an individual small town, suburb or area.

Finally, we have the most important parts - the Units themselves. Units meet once a week at many locations across West Mercia, some at church halls, others at schools and at other local facilities. Units can be found that cater for several different age groups: Rainbows (5 -7 year olds); Brownies (7 - 10); Guides (10 - 14) and Senior Section (14 - 25).

Our volunteers

For adults, there are many volunteer roles in guiding. Many volunteers give their time as Leaders or Assistant Leaders for guiding Units and get to see girls enjoying events and activities that they have organised. Other volunteers take on administrative responsibilities, organise large events, offer training to others or simply help out with driving or maintenance on an occasional basis. We are always needing more help, so please join in!

More than 80,000 amazing volunteers contribute over ten million hours to Guiding every year. In return, we offer training and the opportunity to develop new skills, as well as the knowledge that you've helped young people gain experiences and knowledge that they would otherwise have missed out on.

If you are one of the millions of women in the UK who has been a member of Girlguiding UK over the years, you will appreciate the impact that Guiding can have on a young girl's life such as creating opportunities to grow and develop, making new friendships and meeting new challenges. In West Mercia we support and cherish all our volunteers and have a structured programme in place so that all leaders can, if they so wish, gain a leadership qualification which is respected not only by Girlguiding but also by many employers.

Naturally to protect the girls in our care all volunteers must be CRB checked.

If you are interested then please call Girlguiding on Freephone 0800 1 69 59 01 or register online. Girlguiding UK will then put you in touch with a suitable local contact. In total, we have around 100,000 adult volunteers and supporters, both female and male. Why don't you think about joining ?
